On the Streets, Day Laborers Learn to Defend Their Rights

“A day laborer can look for work on any public area, it is a constitutional right.”

California is a sanctuary state that prohibits police collaboration with immigration agents, with some exceptions. This allows immigrant families to earn a living and pay taxes, even though, in some conservative counties, they face pressure when they seek employment on the streets. As we hear from Ruben Tapia, who was present at a session held in the small town of Eastvale in Riverside County, community organizers are visiting them to inform them of their rights.
