Overdose Deaths Hit Record.

A record 107,000 people died of a drug overdose in the US last year. The overdoses with fentanyl and other opioids are expected to escalate and the nation’s drug epidemic to deepen. Advocates call on policymakers to move from criminalization and invest in public health, treatment and harm reduction services among Latinos and other communities that are seeing the sharpest rise in overdose deaths.

The Politics on the Supreme Court. After news about a plan to end abortion rights by the Supreme Court got out, progressive advocates mobilized around a bill to lessen the influence of conservative justices. The new legislation in Congress would add four new seats to the Supreme Court in an effort to balance the influence of the three appointments made to the court by Donald Trump. Advocates claim the court’s supermajority does not reflect the country’s diversity.
