A record 107,000 people died of a drug overdose in the US last year. The overdoses with fentanyl and other opioids are expected to escalate and the nation’s drug epidemic to deepen. As most states passed punitive laws, advocates call on policymakers to move from criminalization and invest in public health, treatment and harm reduction services among Latinos and other communities that are seeing the sharpest rise in overdose deaths. An expert talks about the factors that have spurred the overdose rise durting the pandemic.
