Latinas: Reproductive Justice. Passing of a “Truth Teller.”

Monday_673x324MONDAY, DECEMBER 14.
PROGRAM # 7673 12:00 PM PT

Latinas: Reproductive Justice.

While Latinas are the largest group of women in reproductive age in Texas, they face insurmountable barriers to health care. They are less likely to have health insurance or access to reproductive health services, and end up with serious infections and diseases like cancer. This program explores issues like the attempts to defund Planned Parenthood, the recent visit to the US by a United Nations group on discrimination against women and key state and federal policies at stake.

Guests: Ana Rodríguez DeFrates, Policy and Advocacy Director, Texas Latina Advocacy Network, Austin, TX

Passing of a “Truth Teller.” Poet, singer, healer and long-time contributor to Radio Bilingue, Silvia Parra, died of cancer in Mexico City. Silvia was a driving force in the performance arts community in San Francisco’s Mission district. This obituary includes a tribute to the late artist and segments of her last reporting on art expressions about gentrification in San Francisco and violence against women.

Guests: Chelis Lopez, Host, Linea Abierta; Samuel Orozco, Executive Producer, Linea Abierta, Oakland, CA.
