Medicare Open Enrollment.
If you have a Medicare health or prescription drug plan, this is the last week to shop again and make changes to your 2020 plan. This year, there are new rules for drug coverage, new benefits in Medicare Advantage plans, and other changes. “Just like our health changes, so changes some times the health insurance coverage and could bring surprises,” says a health analyst. How to avoid common mistakes?
Guest: Carolina Fortin-Garcia, Public Affairs Specialist, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Washington, DC.
Open Enrollment in Health Plans. In California, the open enrollment period for CoveredCA, which is under way, was expanded significantly, so people can now sign up on the individual market through end of January. Also, starting January, California will require everyone to have health insurance coverage and subsidies will be available to help households to pay for health care coverage bought in the state’s health insurance marketplace. More Californians who have never received financial help will be able to pay for their health care coverage through subsidies. Advocates also comment on tax credits and other help available to small business owners.
Guests: Xiomara Peña, National Latino Outreach Manager, Small Business Majority, Los Angeles, CA; Yurina Melara, Spokesperson, CoveredCA, Los Angeles, CA.
