Philly’s Soda Tax.
The beverage industry is fighting against Philadelphia after the city council voted to impose a tax on sweetened drinks to fund pre-K and community schools and parks and libraries. The tax went into effect on January 1st. Health advocates are supporting the city in its legal battle, warning that sodas are a major contributor to obesity, diabetes and heart disease among youth and Latinos and Blacks.
