THURSDAY, JUNE 3
PROGRAM # 9276 11:00 AM PDT
Extra Edition: Vaccination.
Most Latinos say they want to get vaccinated against Covid, but have not received it yet because they are concerned about missing work due to side effects, documentation requirements, traveling to the vaccination site and other problems. Community health workers have been reaching out to vulnerable families in rural California to help dispel those concerns. Also, two new studies found that people who were infected and have later been vaccinated against the virus can expect immunity for years or even a lifetime. A public health leader shares news on Covid and talk about their mobile units reaching out to the hardest hit communities in California’s rural counties. A reporter shares the slow progress on vaccination rates among Latinos in Fresno County, and offers testimonies from people who fear the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and others who think that it’s too early to tell if vaccines are safe. Finally, two Guatemalan visitors invested in traveling from Guatemala to New York to be able to get the Covid vaccine, after struggling and been unable to get vaccine protection in their home country.
Guests: Madi Bolaños, reporter, Valley Public Radio, Fresno, CA; Dr. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, Director, Center for Reducing Health Disparities, UC Davis, Davis, CA; “Raquel” and “Roberto,” Guatemalan Visitors, New York, NY.
