Immigration Edition.
California’s state budget plan makes historic investments for low-income immigrant communities after allowing access for undocumented residents to Medi-Cal and to the state’s food assistance program to people over 55, first state in the nation. In other news, Texas Gov. Abbott declared that his state is being invaded by migrants at the border. Warning that this campaign rhetoric inspires acts of terrorism by domestic extremists and encourages violence at the border, activists call on the federal government to defund agencies and counties involved in Operation lone Star. Finally, ICE announced a new policy that would prevent agents from ‘unnecessarily’ conducting separations of migrant families by requiring agents to identify the relationship between adult and child migrants at the border.
