Immigration Edition.
Thousands of Mexican factory workers who produce goods for the US are being bused to the US to get J&J vaccines. Officials in both countries hope the program will help reopen the border and restore their economies. A local government official gives perspective to this initiative and comments on the misguided efforts to blame the surge in Covid-19 cases in the US on migrants who cross the border. On another story: US ICE announced that it will stop arresting or deporting undocumented immigrants who are victims of crime; agents will now be required to help undocumented victims to seek justice and apply for immigration benefits. Finally, a new law in Illinois bans local jails from detaining immigrants facing deportation and requires local governments to end collaboration contracts with ICE.
