Immigration Edition.
A detainee at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego died in the first Covid-19-related death in immigration detention. In previous days, a federal judge had ordered Otay Mesa to release those detainees who were at greater risk of serious illness or death for coronavirus. On other news, a number of governors and mayors are urging DHS to automatically extend DACA work authorizations in recognition of the essential role of immigrants who help fight the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, in Oregon, while public gatherings continue, farmworking towns are being hit the hardest by coronavirus. A reporter givs insights into why.
