PROGRAM # 8861 12:00 PM PT
Immigration Edition.
Tens of thousands of doctors, nurses and paramedics who are on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic are immigrants protected by DACA or TPS, programs that the Trump administration wants to shut down. Pointing to the shortage of health care workers in the US, advocates call on the federal government to advance solutions to protect them. On other news, California is announcing a disaster relief fund to give stimulus checks for undocumented immigrants, a first of its kind in the nation, as teacher groups in the San Francisco Bay Area share their federal stimulus checks with undocumented families. And members of the House are urging Congressional leaders to include protection and financial help for farmworkers in future federal COVID-19 relief legislation.
Guests: Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Santa Barbara, Washington, DC; Aryah Somers-Lansberg, Vice President of Programs, Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees, Washington, DC; Pili Tobar, Deputy Director, Washington, DC.
