Donating Bone Marrow.
Six-year-old Julian Morales from Miami is afflicted with Dyskeratosis Congenita, a rare and progressive condition. The disease leads to failure of the bone marrow, premature aging and, often, early death. Life can be saved through bone marrow transplantation, but there is a critical need for organ donors in the Latino community, which lacks a strong culture of organ and bone marrow donation.

Parkinson’s Disease. About a million people live with Parkinson Disease in the US and the number is expected to grow to pandemic levels in the next decades. At a time when the need to study the disease is more critical, some of the largest pharmaceutical companies are ending the research to discover new medications to fight the disease. And Latinos have a lot at stake, since, along with whites, are at the highest risk of Parkinson’s, and the numbers of older Latinos are rapidly growing. An expert also discusses the importance of treating the disease in its early stages.
