PROGRAM # 9137 12:00 PM PST
Covid: Hospitals in Crisis.
Hospitals in Los Angeles County and other areas in California are hitting the breaking point and turning away ambulances. Very sick patients are having to wait long hours after a massive, worst-in-nation Covid surge, as a new Covid strain is found in Southern California. Doctors are urging the public to stay home, not travel and wear face coverings. A public health leader talks about this and tests available as well as the plans for distribution of Covid vaccine.
Guest: Dr. Margarita Pereyda, Interim Chief Medical Information Officer, Office of Los Angeles County DHHS/Correctional Health Services, Los Angeles, CA. (TBC)
Ricardo Lara. A group of the nation’s state insurance commissioners, including California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, joined together to provide health policy recommendations to the incoming Biden administration. They address urgent public health issues such as the COVID-19 and opioid crises, racial disparities in the healthcare system, and ensuring enforcement of mental health parity.
Guest: Ricardo Lara, California Insurance Commissioner, Los Angeles, CA.
Georgia Runoff: The Eve. President Trump and President-elect Joe Biden are campaigning in Georgia in the final hours before the critical runoff election for two US Senate seats. While runoffs tend to draw far fewer voters than a general election, early voting in this election is breaking historic records. This is a report.
