PROGRAM # 9298 12:00 PM PDT

California Reopens, Pushes Vaccines.

While California is celebrating the full reopening of businesses and activities, health officials are ramping up vaccination and offering vaccines to kids as young as 12. Is the Covid pandemic over in California? When should we wear a mask? Are vaccines required for kids who return to in-person schooling? Are they safe for younger kids? Why do so many Latinos say that they do not know how or do not plan to get vaccinated?

Guest: Dr. Trinidad Solis MD MPH, Public Health Physician, Fresno County Department of Public Health, Fresno, CA.

Cartoons against Covid.

Lalo Alcaraz, a renowned political cartoonist, and Arizona State University’s School of Transborder Studies are jointly launching a bilingual campaign to help dispel false rumors about Covid spread and vaccines among Latinos. One of the campaign’s cartoons shows the heroic figure of a charro wrapped in a Mexican flag and riding a spirited horse. On another one, a mother wrapped in a Virgin-of-Guadalupe-like shawl hugs a baby child. Both heroes are surrounded by syringes that beam light rays that hit and wipe out the images of floating coronavirus. Alcaraz talks about him joining in on the collaborative project with ASU’s School of Transborder Studies as a visual artists in residence and his creative work dispelling fears and removing barriers by using the power of a bicultural lens and a cartoon storytelling.

Guest: Lalo Alcaraz, Award-Winning Political Cartoonist, Artist in Residence, ASU’s School of Transborder Studies, Los Angeles, CA.
