Abortion Rights Hearing: Takeaways.

The Supreme Court heard arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, on a Mississippi law that makes abortion illegal after 15 weeks of pregnancy. This is one of the most important cases challenging the constitutional right to an abortion to be considered by the Supreme Court in a generation. This is a report on the details of the Dobbs case, the oral arguments, the questions raised by the conservative judges and the powerrful question posed by Justice Sotomayor, the sole Latina in the court. What’s next in the case after the hearing? What are the likely scenarios? What would happen if Roe v. Wade is overturned? What’s the legal doctrine at risk?

Guests: Alejandra Soto, Director, Latino Media & Communications, Planned Parenthood, New York City, NY.

Parkinson’s Disease Stigma. Almost half of the people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease may develop hallucinations or delusions, but most keep it in silence due to the stigma it represents. In an effort to reduce the stigma associated with the disease, leading doctors are promoting a bilingual storytelling campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s.

Guest: Dr. Gus Alva, Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of California Riverside School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA.

Historic Election in Honduras. Honduras makes history electing Xiomara Castro as the first female president. Castro is advancing a progressive platform, promising to tackle poverty, corruption, violence and mass migration. Massive voter turnout and an overwhelming margin of victory give her a decisive mandate. The US is pledging support in her fight for democracy and against corruption and drug cartels. An Honduran community radio leader welcomes the outcome as a break with recent right-wing governments, he foresees openness to diverse political views, and expects improved relations with the US. What are the challenges in the road ahead?

Guest: Ismael Moreno Coto, “Father Melo,” Director, Radio Progreso and ERIC, El Progreso, Honduras.
