PROGRAM # 9679 12:00 PM PT
Overturning Roe: Impact on Migrant Women.
An advocate talks about the impact that overturning Roe v. Wade may have on migrant and rural women, their families and farmworker and civil rights. Many farmworking women live in states where abortion is being declared illegal or heavily restricted. What’s the expected effect on women who are applying for asylum, green card, or naturalization? Also, activists are promoting a national campaign to reform the Supreme Court and add four more judges. They say the current court is way out of line with the national ideological center and Congress has a history of doing this reform.
Guests: Mónica Ramírez, Founder and President, Justice for Migrant Women; Mónica García, Communications Director, StandUp America.
Red Flags and Another Mass Shooting. A 21-year-old suspect fired an assault weapon from a rooftop during a 4th of July parade in Highland Park killing six and injuring many more. How was he able to buy five weapons after threats of deadly violence and suicide? Why were red flags ignored? How do red flags laws work? How was he able to skirt Illinois strict gun laws?
Guests: US Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Santa Barbara, Washington, DC; Debbie Mukarsel-Powell, Senior Adviser, Giffords Center, Former Congressmember, Miami, IL.
