Rethinking the Farmworker Movement.

Pulitzer Prize winning author Miriam Pawel talks about her new book The Crusades of Cesar Chavez. She and playwright Luis Valdez lead a discussion forum in Fresno today as part of a national celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Pulitzer Prize. The forum focuses on the history of the farmworker movement in California and the lessons of the battles fought by the poorest workers in California in their quest for justice and empowerment.

New Farmworker Union. Organized berry workers in Northwest Washington prepare for collective bargaining after winning a union election and lifting a boycott against a berry giant. This becomes the first local, indigenous-led field worker union in the history of the state.

Wendy’s Resists Ethics Code. Tomato workers in Florida are stepping up the pressure on Wendy’s, urging the fast-food giant to sign a contract agreeing to purchase tomatoes only from responsible suppliers. They begin this week a national tour called “Behind the Braids.”
