New Sheriff in Town?
In what may be a historic upset, Lt. Alex Villanueva is narrowly leading Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell in the vote count. If elected, Villanueva, a reformer and opponent of local collaboration with ICE, would be the first to unseat an incumbent sheriff in Los Angeles in more than 100 years. He comments on the trends in the vote count, his campaign call to “reform, rebuild, and restore” the Sheriff Department, the challenges on SB54 or the State Sanctuary Law, and his plans for gun control after the massacre in recent days in Thousand Oaks.
Guest: Lt. Alex Villanueva, Candidate to County Sheriff, Los Angeles, CA
Facing a Birther Challenge. A Latina elected to Arizona’s state legislature is fending off a lawsuit challenging her US citizenship from a right-wing militant of the birther movement. The newly elected legislator, a Democrat, comments on the outcome of the recent election, the surge of the Latino vote, and the ramifications of the lawsuit questioning her citizenship.
Guest: Raquel Terán, Member, Arizona House of Representatives, Phoenix, AZ
Florida’s Vote Count. A grassroots organization that helped mobilize the Latino vote and turn the elections for the governorship and the US Senate into dead heat races, is now making a call to get every vote counted and fix a Guest:number of irregularities.
Guest: Carlos Naranjo, Organizer, The New Florida Majority, Broward County, Miami, FL.
