New Voter Restrictions in Florida.

The Florida Legislature passed a controversial bill, championed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, that makes it more difficult for voters to have access to the polls by allowing further purges of voter rolls, banning third-party ballot harvesting, and creating an election crimes unit that would have policing powers over election fraud.

Voting Rights and the Filibuster. Voting rights groups are stepping up pressure on the US Senate and the White House to pass the Freedom to Vote or John Lewis Act, which would expand voter access to elections, reinstate key provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and counter restrictive laws passed by state legislatures that impact communities of color. In January, the Senate was two votes short of passing the bill.

Guest: Jose Santos Woss, Director for Justice Reform, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Washington, DC.

Contenders for Oregon’s New House Seat. Two Latina candidates, both state legislators, are running in the Democratic primaries for Oregon’s newest congressional district. What are their prospects? What are their offerings to voters? What are the lines of the new US House district?
