THURSDAY, JUNE 6
PROGRAM # 8623 12:00 PM PT
NEH, Cultural Diplomacy and Bilingualism.
This is a conversation with Jon Parrish Peede, the Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities, an agency created as part of the Great Society law and the civil rights movement in the 1960s. A scholar of literature, Peede talks about the future of humanities and his agency, after President Trump threatened to end it two years ago. He also comments on bilingualism, support for endangered languages, current efforts of “cultural diplomacy,” the bilingual anthology Lo que cuenta el vecino, and how the “intellectual rigor of humanities” could help deal with the toxic rhetoric surrounding migrant communities.
Guest: Jon Parrish Peede, Chairman, National Endowment for the Humanities, Washington, DC.
