Millions Urge Clemency for Truck Driver.
Millions have signed a petition for Colorado Gov. Jared Polis to grant clemency to Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, a 26-year-old Cuban American truck driver who was sentenced to 110 years in prison for a crash that killed four people. Mederos stated his brakes failed, and he could not stop his semi-truck loaded with lumber. Advocates are also urging Colorado lawmakers to revisit its mandatory minimum sentencing laws and end pervasive racial and ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system.
