MONDAY, OCTOBER 1
PROGRAM # 8436 12:00 PM PT

Kavanaugh, Puerto Rico and Master Altar-Maker.

This program includes news about the confirmation hearings of Trump’s embattled nominee to the Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh. The report includes sounds of the session to hear the accusation of sexual assault against Kavanaugh by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the Senate vote to continue the confirmation process, the confrontation of Sen. Flake by a Latina activist, and the agreement to open a fast-track FBI investigation on the case. On another story, after Hurricane Maria, a number of Puerto Ricans lost their employment and income and now, one year later, children from the poorest families go to bed hungry and live in bleak conditions. Advocates are calling on Washington to pass relief measures for low-income families in Puerto Rico. The program also includes an interview with a master altar maker who was awarded the top honor for folk arts in the nation for decades-long work in keeping the altar-making Day of the Dead tradition alive in East Los Angeles.

Guests: Jose Lopez Zamorano, Reporter, Washington, D.C.; (audio segments) Senate Hearing with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh, Confrontation by Ana Maria Archila; Amanda Rivera, Executive Director, Instituto del Desarrollo de la Juventud, San Juan, PR; Master Altar-Maker Ofelia Esparza, NEA National Heritage Fellow, Washington, DC.
