PROGRAM # 9277 12:00 PM PDT

Chief Balderrama on Police Reform.

El Paso-born Paco Balderrama made history as the first Latino chief in the history of the city of Fresno. The local government created a commission on police reform after the murder of George Floyd one year ago to tackle issues of abuse of force and racial discrimination. In this exclusive conversation, chief Balderrama talks about his upbringing. He also discusses the recommended police reforms, his philosophy on the culture of policing, the recent firing of an officer tied to a far-right extremist group, the efforts to recruit Spanish-speaking cops, his critical views about local police cooperation in detaining immigrants, and other law enforcement matters.

Guest: Chief Paco Balderrama, New Police Chief, Fresno, CA.
