Monday_673x324(2)MONDAY, JUNE 1
PROGRAM # 8901 12:00 PM PT

George Floyd Protests.

George Floyd Protests. As protests after George Floyd’s killing spread around the US and a police precinct is burned in Minneapolis, and as a cop is arrested and charged with murder, civil rights leaders call on national and local elected officials to pass legislation that will make it easier to penalize police abuses of power and address policies that are rooted in institutional racism. Civil rights analysts give their first reaction to Floyd’s death, comment on why the protests are so many, so widespread, so intense and so long lasting, about civil and police violence, the role of Latinos in these protests, the use of this moment as a turning point in order to catalyze meaningful police reforms at the federal and local levels, and the foreseeable impact on the November elections.

Guests: Dr. Miguel Tinker Salas, Professor of History, Pomona College, Los Angeles , CA; Rafael Morales, Communications Manager, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Washington, DC.

Protests Against Police Violence and Labor Strikes. In Washington state, fruit packing workers continue on strike demanding protection measures against the coronavirus, while public rallies and clashes with the police multiply in large and small cities and in repudiation of the death in Minneapolis of African American George Floyd, as well as the kneeling of a police chief in support of the protesters. The incident of police violence against Floyd revives for many in the region the memory of the death of the field worker Antonio Zambrano Montes, shot by police five years ago, an event that led to a movement for police reform in the valley.

Guest: Francisco Rios, News Director, KDNA, Granger, WA.
