PROGRAM # 8613 12:00 PM PT
Social Equity in Marijuana Industry.
Since California voters gave the green light in 2016 to make marijuana legal for recreational use, there has been a “green gold rush” to get retail licenses. In anticipation, some cities have established social equity programs, which give preference for cannabis dispensaries to applicants from the communities most impacted by the war on drugs. In Fresno, voters passed a measure requiring ten percent of tax revenues on cannabis go to a “community benefit fund,” and last year the state passed a cannabis equity law. How is this debate around licenses and social funds playing out in conservative Fresno?
Guests: César Casamayor, Co-Founder, Fresno People’s Dispensary, Fresno, CA; Juan Bautista, Former Prisoner, Former Marijuana Vendor, Organizer of “Opportunities for All” Job Training Center, Fresno, CA .
