California Recall Election: A Debate.

Despite being a small minority of the California electorate, Republicans are mounting a serious battle in their effort to oust Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom. The California recall election is already under way via mail-in ballots and Sept. 14. will be the last day to cast a ballot. If the majority of voters decide against the recall, Gov. Newsom will remain in office. If the majority of voters vote to recall Gov. Newsom, the candidate who receives the most votes will be elected as the new governor. The recall could have a dramatic impact on how the state addresses Covid-19, housing, education, immigration, and other issues. In this third debate, a pro-recall advocate accuses Newsom of failing to deliver on issues like lowering crime and homelessness, providing water to rural comunities and bringing taxes down, while a NO on the recall supporter calls the special election a political move by Trumpist Republicans who are attempting to impose a conservative agenda of California’s past: anti-immigrant, anti-worker, anti-environment, and discriminatory.
