The Latino Vote in Texas. Also, The Latino Vote in California.

Monday_673x324MONDAY, OCTOBER 24
PROGRAM # 7909 12:00 PM PST.

The Latino Vote in Texas.

Nearly 5 million Latinos are eligible to vote in Texas but many are not registered and usually even less turnout to cast ballots. This year, the voter mood seems to be changing in the Lone Star state. Energized by Trump’s calls to build a wall with Mexico and his treatment of women, Latinos and women are registering in record numbers. Will they turn out to vote? Will they impact the political colors of this traditionally conservative state? A renowned political expert also looks into the heated battle between Gallego and Hurd for a seat in the US Congress.

Guest: Attorney Jose Angel Gutierrez, Professor Emeritus, University of Texas, Arlington, Founder, La Raza Unida Party, Brownsville, TX.

The Latino Vote in California. California voters hit a milestone in this election. A record number of residents have registered to vote and Latino groups are redoubling efforts to beat the voter registration deadline today. A voter advocate comments on what’s driving Latinos to register, on early voting, and contests of special interest, including two congressional districts in the Central Valley: David Valadao v. Emilio Huerta and Jeff Denham v. Michael Eggman, and the historic race to the US Senate between Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez.

Guest: Antonio Gonzalez, President, South West Voter Registration Project, Los Angeles, CA.
