PROGRAM # 7910 12:00 PM PST.
The Latino Vote in Arizona.
The Latino Vote in Arizona. The traditionally red state of Arizona may turn blue due to the rapid and record growth of the Latino electorate. Once a stronghold for immigration restrictionists and site of Trump’s major speech on immigration, Arizona is now a battleground. Even the long political career of Sheriff Joe Arpaio is seriously endangered. A news correspondent reports on these developments, and on the state contests for the White House and the US Senate. Also, an editor of the largest newspaper in Arizona talks about the brutal backlash caused by their editorial endorsement, for the first time in their history, of a non Republican presidential candidate.
Guests: Valeria Fernández, Correspondent, Phoenix, AZ; Elvia Diaz, Editor, The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, AZ.
The Latino Vote in Nevada. In the battleground of Nevada, an unprecedented effort to engage Latino voters may produce the highest Latino voter turnout in the state’s history. They are expected to account for 20 percent of the Nevada electorate. Latino observers have two races to watch: Catherine Cortez-Masto could become the first Latina in the history of the US Senate, and Mexico-born Ruben Kihuen could make history as the first Latino from Nevada to be elected to the US House.
Guest: Ben Monterroso, National Executive Director, Mi Familia Vota, West Covina, CA.
