PROGRAM # 7697 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

The director of the organization Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, which in the 1970’s started the search for more than 30,000 Argentineans disappeared by the military dictatorship in Argentina, visits Mexico to give support to Mexican mothers. The activist was invited by Amnesty International, the first report of which in 2016 calls the Mexican government’s response to thousands of cases of missing persons as indolent. The organization is calling for the presence of international agencies to give protection to human rights activists and parents searching for missing children, as well as for the passage of a law against forced disappearance that holds those responsible accountable for the crime. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.

Guests: (pretaped audio) Erika Guevara Rosas, Director for the Americas, Amnesty International, Mexico City; Leticia Sánchez Villalobos, Centro de Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres, Chihuahua, Mexico;  Estela Barnés de Carlotto, president, Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo; Zita Loyo and Héctor Cerezo, Comité Cerezo, Mexico.
