PROGRAM # 7692 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

The Mexican government has captured drug trafficker Joaquín Guzmán Loera for the third time. The media coverage of his re-apprehension left behind news about the increased crisis caused by the devaluation of the peso against the dollar and the fall in oil prices. In this edition, social justice activists report they presented a bill in Mexico’s Senate about forced disappearance. 274 organizations are calling to make search mechanisms more efficient, create a national registry of missing people, which includes DNA and ante and post-mortem files, special punishment for state agents involved in this crime, and guarantees of no repeat incidences. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.

Guests: (pretaped interviews) Héctor Cerezo and Zita Loyo, members of Comité Cerezo, a human rights organization, and promoters of the National Campaign Against Forced Disappearance in Mexico, Mexico City.
