TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28
PROGRAM # 9394 12:00 PM PDT
Immigration Edition.
After the Senate parliamentarian ruled against making immigration reform part of the budget reconciliation package, Democrats are rushing to put new plans on the table, including a proposal to move the Registry Date to 2011, to allow millions of people who arrived in the US before that date to apply for legal permanent residency. A business analyst talks about the alternative plans and about recent polls in battleground states that show strong voter support for including a path to citizenship for immigrants in the budget reconciliation process. In other news: after recent images of white, cowboy-dressed Border Patrol agents on horseback whipped Haitian migrants in the city of Del Rio, Texas, and as the Biden administration ramps up deportations to Haiti and returns thousands of Haitians to Mexico, advocates join forces nationwide to call on the Biden administration to stop the mistreatment of refugees, give them humanitarian relief, stop deportation flights to Haiti, and end Title 42 deportations. Finally, the Biden administration announced new proposed rules to formalize DACA and shield the program from lawsuits. A leading Dreamer explains the rule, encourages the public to participate with comments, and urges Congress to include permanent legalization for Dreamers in the budget reconciliation plan.
