Texas celebrates Willie Velasquez Day and latino activists in Texas are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the passing of Willie Velasquez by urging young citizens to get involved in community service activities and to register people to vote. Velásquez was a voting rights pioneer who founded the Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project and had a long lasting impact in the South West. Veteran leaders reflect on Velasquez legacy and discuss the modern challenges to the right to vote and to get Latinos to become active voters and move up to elected office.
