Voting Rights and Independence Day.
On the 50th anniversary of the US Civil Rights Commission hearing in San Antonio on civil rights issues faced by Mexican Americans, an organizer remembers the landmark event and talks about the continuing challenge among Latino voters to get political representation. And in a decision on racial gerrymandering, the US Supreme Court sided with Republicans declining to change current state and congressional districts in Texas that had been found to be discriminatory. And on Radio Bilingüe’s birthday, its director and founder comments on the challenges ahead for community radio’s journalism.
