Mass incarceration has become a big and growing business and, thanks to their influence on the criminal justice system, powerful prison companies are making millions in profits. An expert talks about the powerful correction industry lobby, felony disenfranchisement, prison gerrymandering, and other issues and reform initiatives included in the report “Democracy Behind Bars.”

Town Hall Summer. A number of community groups are convening a series of town hall meetings throughout the Southwest during the summer to draw voter attention to issues ranging from police violence and hate crimes, to unity of migrant families and climate change. In their kick off in Fresno, parents seeking asylum in the US and separated from their children will headline the forum.
