MONDAY, JUNE 22
PROGRAM # 8921 12:00 PM PT
Police Abuse, Racist Language and the Election.
In the weekend, as the nation marks the end of slavery, thousands of acts of protest against racism and police abuse are held across the nation. Meanwhile, President Trump held his first rally of the season in Tulsa, the site of a massacre of African Americans a hundred years ago. A sociologist comments on the symbolism of this event and on the celebration of the Presidential Republican Convention in coincidence with the anniversary in the host city of another horrific and brutal attack by white supremacists against African-Americans, and the use of a symbol of hatred used by the Nazis in Trump’s re-election campaign ads. In other news, public protests continue in Salt Lake City over the killing of Bernardo Palacios, who was shot in the back with more than 20 shots by local police officers against whom no charges have been brought or disciplinary action taken.
Guests: David Kifuri, Station Manager, KFUR, St. George, UT; Lorena Burciaga, Spokesperson for the Bernardo Palacios Family, Salt Lake City, UT; Professor Emeritus Gonzalo Santos, Sociologist, California State University Bakersfield, Bakersfield, CA.
