When Should Cops Shoot?

Wednesday_673x324WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27
PROGRAM # 8572 12:00 PM PT

When Should Cops Shoot?

The high-profile shooting by police of a number of unarmed Black or Latino men, has prompted state legislators in California to propose changes to the policies involving police use of deadly force. Calling this a matter of life or death, civil liberties groups are pushing for AB392, a bill that would limit the circumstances under which police can use deadly force against unarmed or non-violent individuals. Police unions instead throw their support behind a bill that would require more training for officers. The program begins with the dramatic testimony of a young man who witnessed the killing of his father at the hands of police officers, while his father was looking for medical help for a heart attack. This edition is produced in collaboration with The Justice Collaborative.

Guests: Ivan Alexander Herrera, Son of José Herrera, an Elderly Man Killed by Police, Los Angeles, CA; Daisy Vieyra, Senior Communications Strategist, American Civil Liberties Union of California, Sacramento, CA; Lolita Harper, Spokesperson, Protect California, Los Angeles, CA; State Sen. Anna Caballero, D-Salinas, Sacramento, CA.
