Redistricting Commission: Deadline.
The US Supreme Court ruled in recent weeks that courts can’t limit partisan gerrymandering. To ensure better rules for redistricting and prevent gerrymandering, voters in California approved an independent commission that gave the power to citizens to redraw electoral districts. This season, the state is convening its second commission and time is running out for interested people to apply to serve in the commission.
Guests: Rey López Calderón, Director, Common Cause, Oakland, CA; Dr. Gabino Aguirre, Commissioner, California Citizens Redistricting Commission, Santa Paula, CA
Trump in El Paso and Dayton. As El Paso recovers from “the largest attack on the Latino community in modern times,” President Trump visits Dayton and El Paso. Hundreds in both cities protested his visit. A Catholic Archbishop in Texas urges Trump: “Stop hate and racism, starting with yourself.” An El Paso community leader says today is a national day of action to support the families of those who died and confront white supremacist ideology, and talks about the fears of immigrants to seek emergency help.
Guest: Fernando Garcia, Executive Director, Border Network for Human Rights, El Paso, TX.
