Combating Slavery in the Fields.
A conversation with state Sen. Rebecca Saldaña, about two bills she is spearheading in Washington state’s legislature: one to ban discrimination based on citizenship or immigration status, in areas such as employment, services and housing, and another one to help combat slavery, peonage, and human traffic. In both bills, she is facing a backlash from Republican leaders.

Domestic Workers in Mexico Win Protections. A national leader of domestic workers in Mexico explains the progress made to legislate rights and protections for, and end labor discrimination against domestic workers. Some bills are moving forward in the new Congress, the new administration is ratifying ILO’s Convention 189 and an experimental program to extend domestic workers health benefits is under way.
