PROGRAM # 9226 12:00 PM PDT
Voting Battlegrounds.
After Georgia, Texas and Arizona are now becoming the new battlegrounds on voting rights. At least 47 states are pushing legislation to limit early voting hours, prohibit drive-thru voting and other measures. Big companies have spoken out against these law initiatives and Major League Baseball All-Star Game was moved to Denver over the restrictive laws in Georgia. This program offers a report on Georgia’s new laws and the ensuing legal and political battle. Also, a voting rights advocate comments on what the initiatives mean for the country’s democracy, on the Republican bills in Texas to restrict the vote, and what actions President Biden could take to influence the fight against the efforts to restrict the vote.
Guests: Gerardo Guzmán, News Director, Hispanic News Service, Atlanta, GA; Lydia Camarillo, President, Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project, William C. Velásquez Institute, San Antonio, TX
