In a decision against Mexico’s federal government and transnational corporations like Monsanto and Dupont, a Mexican tribunal suspended permits to sell and grow genetically modified corn in Mexico. The Mexican government is trying to appeal this decision, while a number of farmers, scientists, environmentalists and other activists are coming together in a national coalition to save traditional or “criollo” corn against the threat of transgenic seeds. A renowned agroecologist and social activist discusses these and other developments.
