Activist Nestora Salgado, leader of community police in an indigenous town in the Mexican heartlands, begins a hunger strike in a maximum security prison in Mexico City protesting her detention, postponed a new hunger strike in anticipation of a critical court decision. Her lawyer joins this program to discuss her case. In another story, leaders of the self-defense movement in Michoacán also protest their continued detention after a judge refused to act on their appeal. The defense lawyer for Dr. Mireles joins this program. And a top expert on political asylum law comments on recent cases of Mexican border nationals who seek refuge, fleeing violence and displacement in a region with massive development and land speculation.
