Deportation Against Journalists and Activists.

Journalist organizations express alarm over the continued detention of Salvadoran journalist Manuel Durán, arrested by ICE in April. They say his detention harms the Latino community and has a chilling effect on many other reporters. A migrant-rights leader who is battling a deportation process in immigration courts comments on the case of Durán and the targeting of social activists by ICE.

Mexicans Vote from Abroad. Ten days before the presidential election in Mexico, activists and officials renew calls to encourage Mexicans living abroad to mail their ballots on time before this weekend’s deadline. While more than 180 thousand have requested their ballots, less than half have sent their votes. An elections official from a state/city with the largest number of votes from emigres, a community leader from Los Angeles, and an organizer of election observers comment on the historic turnout of absentee ballots, the obstacles that difficult voting from abroad, and citizen efforts to mobilize volunteer observers to prevent or report election irregularities.
