Mexico, along with five other Latin American countries, marks September 16 as its independence day, the day when Mexico was born as a nation. But what exactly does it mean to be a Mexican? Few have approached this question with the humor and stinging, critical wit of cartoonist Rafael Barajas, “El Fisgón.” We take a look at the Mexican homeland through the eyes of “El Fisgón” and the humor of top Mexican cartoonists.

Guest: Rafael Barajas Durán “El Fisgón,” author and cartoonist, La Jornada, Mexico City, http://www.jornada.unam.mx

ALSO GUN CONTROL MOVES FORWARD IN CALIFORNIA. The state legislature approved a ban on semi automatic rifles with detachable magazines, moving California closer to the nation’s toughest gun control. The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk. We present an exclusive interview with the bill’s author, Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.

Guest: Darrell Steinberg, Senate President pro Tem, California Senate, Sacramento, CA, http://sd06.senate.ca.gov
