Mexican President López Obrador insisted he would not attend the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles if Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua were not invited and would instead send a delegate. On the eve of the continental gathering, political analysts comment on pressure Biden is facing from center-left Latin American governments and from US politicians from states with powerful Cuban right-wing lobby, the stakes, and the meaning of this confict. A leader of day laborers comments on the plans by community-based organizations to gather in downtown Los Angeles to express the concerns of the essential workers who kept the economy going during the pandemic, and the deportees. In another story, a Mexican elections official talks about the races to watch in Mexico’s gubernatorial elections this weekend, and how Mexicans living abroad can vote in four of these state elections.
