FRIDAY, AUGUST 20
PROGRAM # 9355 12:00 PM PDT
Mexico Edition.
Leaders of Mexican emigre groups are staging coordinated rallies in more than a dozen Mexican consulates in the US protesting long delays in processing documents, negligence and contemptuous treatment by Mexican officials. They also allege a system of illegal trafficking of appointments at the consulates. They are calling on Mexico and US prosecutors to launch an investigation. On another topic, a Mexican border scholar considers that both the US and the Mexican governments are violating human rights and international covenants against migrants seeking asylum as the US implements its policy of fast-track expulsions of migrants under Title 42, the policy from the Trump era that gives border agents extraordinary power invoking the Covid-19 emergency measures.
Guests: Jorge Mujica, Alternate Federal Congressmember, Mexico’s Congress, MORENA Party, Chicago, IL; Silvia Guzman, Activist, Seattle, WA; Carlos Quintanilla, Activist, Dallas, TX; Dr. María Dolores París Pombo, Coordinator, Observatory of Legislation and Migration Policy, Academic Researcher at the Department of Cultural Studies, El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, Tijuana-Ensenada, Mexico.
