PROGRAM # 9271 12:00 PM PDT

Mexico Edition.

Mexico’s June 6 midterm election, the largest in history, is widely seen as a referendum on current president Lopez Obrador’s policies. Two major political coalitions are clashing in a battle for control of Congress and half of Mexico’s governorships. Leaders of those coalitions join this program to debate their agenda for Mexican communities living abroad. One guest praised the progress of the López Obrador administration in cleaning up the government after decades of a culture of corruption and the impact of the recent acquisition of a Shell-owned refinery by Mexico’s state oil agency. A leader of the opposition replied that while the president has been honest, he is acting alone and is weakening the country’s institutions, and his energy policy is relying on fosil fuels, not renewable energy, which moves the counrty to the past and threatens action against climate change. Listeners call in to air contrasting opinions.

Guests: Dulce Maria Sauri Riancho, President, Mexico’s House of Representatives, Congressmember, PRI Party, Mexico City; Alejandro Robles, Former Mexican Congressmember, Migrant Candidate for Congress, MORENA Party, Toronto, Canada.
