PROGRAM # 9208 12:00 PM PST

Mexico Edition.

A Mexican writer and a leading activist comment on the federal bill to regulate Canabis that passed the Mexican House. The bill would decriminalize recreational use of marijuana throughout Mexico. Guest analysts discuss the pros and cons of the initiative from a public health perspective. While they welcome the end of the policy of punishment and stigmatization and the opening of participation for the population of farmers, they expect a limited impact on the power of organized crime and on human rights.

Guests: Javier Sicilia, Mexican poet, essayist, novelist, peace activist and journalist, Cuernavaca, México; Jorge Herrera, Co-founder, Instituto RIA, Mexico City, Mexico.
