PROGRAM # 8914 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

Susana Prieto Terrazas, an activist and labor lawyer, was detained in Tamaulipas. The litigator, spearhead of the 20/32 labor movement, which last year won wage increases for maquila workers in more than 80 companies, is accused of riot, threats and crimes against public officials. Meanwhile, in Mexicali, members of the environmental movement that managed to stop the installation of the ConstellationsBrands brewery, declare themselves on red alert, as the binational agreement between Mexico and the United States for the construction of three desalination plants in the state of Baja California continues. The activists say that this project, among others of hydraulic infrastructure, conceals the commercialization and transfer of large flows of water that would be delivered to the neighboring state of California, in the United States. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this program from Mexico City.

Guests: (recorded interview) Iván Martínez Zazueta, researcher and activist of the “Mexicali Resiste” movement, Mexicali, Baja California, MX; (audio segments) Alina Guillén, media coordinator, Movimiento 20/32, Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, MX.
