PROGRAM # 8846 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
In the face of the Covid-19 pandemic that has left 50 deaths and more than 1,500 people infected in the country, the Mexican government urgently recruits medical, civilian and military personnel, reconditions public hospitals and issues decrees so that the sick are treated, including in private clinics. In this public health emergency, attention has been focused on the big cities, as they are the hardest hit by the pandemic. But although the contagions have not yet reached the indigenous and rural population, they must be prioritized in the rescue plan since poverty makes them more vulnerable. Such is the case of the Guerrerense mountain region, where the population already suffers from a lack of remittances, delayed help from social programs and limitations on street and artisan commerce. Martha Elena Ramírez, hosts this program from Mexico City.
Guests: Anthropologist Abel Barrera Hernández, founder and director, Center for Human Rights of the Mountain, Tlachinollan, Tlapa, Guerrero, Mexico; (audio segments) Dr.Alejandro Svarch Pérez, Human Resources Recruitment Coordinator, Instituto de Salud para el Bienestar, Mexico City.
