PROGRAM # 8739 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

Mass indigenous rallies are taking place in La Paz, capital of Bolivia, five days after the coup d’etat perpetrated against President Evo Morales, who is exiled in Mexico. This is how large sectors of the Bolivian people have reacted after the overthrow of the elected president and the widespread violence unleashed by conservative opposition groups against indigenous local authorities. The Organization of American States (OAS) ruled that new elections be held in that Andean country. In a press conference, the deposed president said he resigned to avoid a bloodshed, because the coup leaders have the support of the police and the military, and said that the military commanders tried to prevent Mexico from giving him asylum, because they prevented for several hours the Mexican government plane from landing in Bolivia. Today, Evo Morales says he is willing to return to his country and engage in a dialogue, because as long as he lives he will continue in the fight. Martha Elena Ramírez, conducts this broadcast of the Public Voice program, from Mexico City.

Guests: (audio segments) Evo Morales Ayma, deposed president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia; asylee in Mexico; María Elena Merz, executive director, Academy of Commitment to Parents, Los Angeles, CA; Rodrigo Rojas Navarrete, Consejo Nacional de Certificación de Competencias Laborales (Conocer), Mexico City.
